Art in Clay

7th-9th August

The 15th Art in Clay will take place at Hatfield House, Hertfordshire on Friday 7th to Sunday 9th August. Three days for all those interested in Ceramic art and craft to enjoy. The work you will see represents some of the most diverse and interesting to be seen in the UK this year. As the number of people who buy handmade ceramics increases, events like this, that attract casual visitors as well as collectors, go a long way to developing new audiences. Whether you are looking for something for the home or garden the sheer variety of the work on offer at Art in Clay will ensure a unique weekend for everyone.

This year sees over 170 exhibitors. There is an exciting mix of new and established talent along side graduate work from various Universities. Mary Rich, Mike Dodd, Clare Conrad, Tim Andrews, Jenny Beavan, Françoise Dufayard, Niek Hoogland, Robin Welch, Geoff Swindell, Svend Bayer, Mary Wondrausch are just a few who will be exhibiting at this years show.

Demonstrations will be taking place both inside and outside the marquees all weekend. There will be throwing and hand decoration inside the marquees and firing demonstrations in the show arena. A series of talks and demonstrations by skilled artisans working in clay are scheduled to take place in the Lecture Theatre where visitors can get an insight into the skills and background of some of the leaders in the ceramic world.

There will be opportunities to play with clay for young and old. ‘Throw-a-pot’ is popular with all age groups and children can get a real feel for clay in the Make and Take area.

The Shows relaxed atmosphere invites first time visitors to browse, whilst seasoned collectors can seek out hot new makers. Opportunities to meet the makers like this are becoming rare so you may wish to take the opportunity and commission a one off piece of work. A wide variety of trade stands, specialist books and publications will also be available at the show.
