Hatfield House Country Show  15 - 17th August 2008

ENJOY A SUMMER DAY OUT IN THE COUNTRY

This summer, Hatfield House will be the setting for a great day out in the country. Traditional and wholesome country food and time-honoured rural crafts will combine with the very best displays and demonstrations of country pursuits to give a real taste of country lifestyle.

The Fine Food Fair will showcase the superior flavour and quality of wholesome and pure country fare with a delicious selection of foods to suit all tastes. Inspiration and mouth watering recipes will abound in the Celebrity Cookery Theatre where top chefs will be sharing their trade secrets on creating the best tasting country food to impress even the most discerning diners.

Craftsmen will also be demonstrating their skills in the rural crafts area offering a fascinating insight into how traditional products are made and an opportunity to buy truly original pieces for your home.

Elsewhere in the Show, entertainment will be on the menu with a busy schedule in the main Arena. The British Heavy Horse Driving Team will be performing their impressive routines and Flying Falconry displays will be delighting the crowds. Dog agility and training displays will be showing how clever canines can be and regular demonstrations of the classic country game of polo will be showing the true bond between horse and rider.

Animal lovers of all ages will be entranced by the amazing Dancing Sheep and younger visitors will have the opportunity to see, touch and learn all about farmyard animals in the Children’s Farm. Visitors will also be able to take up the challenge and try longbow archery and clay pigeon shooting and discover the extent of their skills in these traditional country sports. Children and adults alike will love the traditional steam driven carousel and ferris wheel and the majesty of the steam driven engines and tractors, giving a true taste of the bye-gone country age.

The Hatfield House Country Show will also see the largest gathering of traditional breed pigs in the UK  all competing for prestigious awards. They will be joined by other traditional breeds and there will also be a sheep show to celebrate the best specimens.

No celebration of country lifestyle would be complete without a taste of the longest running BBC country drama series, The Archers. Trevor Harrison who plays Eddie Grundy will be at the show on Friday and Saturday to meet visitors and share his country experiences.

Dogs on leads are very welcome, but please do not take them into the livestock areas or food marquees.
