Archives and Research

Many of the documents at Hatfield House have been here since they were created. We hold documents and collections of local, national and international significance. Our primary aim is to preserve the papers in our care for the benefit of future generations. The collection is used by the owner and managers of the estate but the records are also made available to suitably qualified researchers. The collection is privately maintained and no public funding is sought or received.

Two qualified members of staff are employed, who are responsible for the care and preservation of two large storerooms of archival material dating from the 12th century to the present day, as well as the collections of pictures, furniture, china, silver and other artefacts.
