We are usually able to supply copies of the Cecil Papers at Hatfield. Each request is considered on an individual basis. We are not willing to make large numbers of copies (i.e. more than about 10/20).
A complete set of master photocopies of the Cecil Papers was created many years ago; it is these rather than the original documents which are copied. Usually adequate copies are produced but occasionally some of the masters are indistinct in places. These photocopies will gradually be superseded by digital images once our digitisation process gets underway.
We do not supply copies of the papers of the Third Marquess of Salisbury (1830- 1903) or of papers of any more recent collections.
The collection at Hatfield includes a number of exciting images, amongst them two celebrated portraits of Queen Elizabeth I and the well-known Fete at Bermondsey circa 1570 by Joris Hoefnagel. A catalogue of Paintings and Sculpture at Hatfield House by E Auerbach and C K Adams was publishes in 1971. For the purpose of publication, we may be able to hire out a transparency or supply a digital image.
The Marquess of Salisbury reserves copyright in all copies (whether digital or hard copy) of any pictures or documents at Hatfield House. If you would like to publish any of our images, please contact us at v.perry@hatfield-house.co.uk to discuss terms and payment. It can take some time to produce the paperwork involved, so please apply in plenty of time before the publishing deadline for reproducing images.
