Feathered Residents at Hatfield House

Introducing Peter, one of our knowledgeable volunteers.

He is leading a survey of our feathered residents and holds a British Trust for Ornithology Schedule 1 licence to monitor and ring Barn Owls and other species. Here he is with three young Barn Owls and a Buzzard. Data is taken to determine type of species, the size and sex of the young. Broods will be ringed or tagged and monitored in future years with the hope they will flourish and contribute to future generations of the raptor population.

Surveys play an important role in building our teams knowledge about existing species and the wide range of valuable habitats on the estate. This knowledge assists our daily management of the park, protecting and enhancing existing habitats and creating new. We are committed to ensuring that land and property are managed to reflect the latest thinking in conservation and environmental best practice.
