Subway Art Project

The renovation of the subways is part of a wider programme to encourage active travel and reduce cars use across the county. Walking and cycling have so many benefits to both physical and mental health, as well as having a big impact on air quality, and therefore on everyone’s health. That’s why improving walking routes like these is so important to the County Council.

Working with local communities is a key part of the programme, the project involved working with local artist Mark Tanti, Hatfield House and the Hatfield 3rd Air Scouts. With the train station so close, it is easy to visit by train.

Mark has used images from Hatfield House, the Air Scouts and of local wildlife as reference to create his design, with the goal to enrich people’s lives through the Arts and Culture and reminding everyone there is an attraction rich with local heritage close by.

Mark Tanti created a Mural Arts Business known as Demograffix in 2007 that specializes in Street Art and other bespoke paintings with the aim is to provide a high-quality art and to deliver murals in local communities. He completed his BA Hons Degree in Community Art and Design at Greenwich University, Mark moved to Stevenage in Hertfordshire, where he set about establishing his business as a Mural and Street Artist. As the leading Artist Mark has a track record for creating a number of large murals for Stevenage Borough Council.
